What makes a busy mom happy at this time of year? Another box of chocolates? No. Christmas cards with letters about how fabulously other people’s lives are (let’s face it, people who don’t have fabulous lives don’t write about it in a card, they just sign their names)? No. A place to shop that is convenient, quiet (no Christmas carols, no yelling children), and has what you need? Yes. Run With It, the new running store in Whistler is just such place. Convenient: it’s located below Nesters and beside the barbershop; no yelling children: thanks to owner Wendy Chalk having a great set of toys to keep both boys and girls busy; and has what I needed: Christmas presents for the active members of my family. This year, I am trying to shop locally, and Run With It made it easy. The prices at Run With It are as good as if not better than any of the running stores in the city, and while the store is small, Wendy is more than willing to help you find the right thing and willing to order it in if you need another size. That is the thing about shopping in Whistler. There was the thought at one point, and at some point it was probably true, that Whistler prices were jacked up to take advantage of the tourists. These days, that is just not the case. Sure there are some places that may seem a little pricey, but they would be pricey in the city too. Thanks to a bunch of factors – Walmart, the economy, chain stores, a better highway – retailers can’t afford to overprice their products. This means that Christmas shopping in Whistler this year is convenient and cost effective.
