Whistler in Spring

Whistler is famous for its winter skiing and summer mountain biking, but what is spring in Whistler like?

Spring in Whistler is a bit of a locals’ secret. The crowds of the winter a noticeably fewer, and the summer tourists haven’t yet started arriving. Meanwhile, the mountain still provides spring skiing, and the valley is basking in sunshine and offers a huge range of activities!

Everyone is outside

As the snow in the valley melts away and the sun starts to bring warmth, you will notice that everyone is outside and active.

The consistent snowfall received by Whistler means that the ski season continues well into May, letting you enjoy one of the longest seasons in the world. But, if you’ve had your fill of skiing, you can now enjoy a plethora of activities opened up by the snow melting.

Hiking and biking trails are now open and it is the perfect time to enjoy them before the heat of the summer makes for tough work! The lakes have now thawed and you will see a few brave locals going for a dip (but you may still want to wait till summer!).

Aside from biking and skiing, Whistler is also known for its world-class golf courses. As spring arrives, golfers can hit the fairway once again.

There are great events

It’s not just the busy seasons that offer incredible events. Spring plays host to two, fairly contrasting events with the World Ski and Snowboard Festival in April, and GoFest in May.

WSSF sees world-class skiers and snowboarders come to Whistler to partake in showcases and competitions, alongside bands, DJs, comedians and parties. GoFest is a relatively new festival taking place over the May long-weekend and celebrating everything outdoors.

A time to enjoy

With fewer crowds and tons of activities to experience, spring in Whistler really is a time to enjoy. As there aren’t as many tourists, local restaurants offer some pretty incredible deals and set menus. It is a fantastic time to indulge in some amazing food at a very affordable price.

So, whether you want to enjoy the mountain, the village, or the valley, get outside and have a spring adventure!
