Whistler Realtor Q&A – Amber Mann

Why did you move to Whistler?

Like everyone else, I moved here for the mountains and the skiing and fell in love with the town and the people. I’m originally from Saskatchewan and moved to BC in 1997, living in Kamloops and going to university in Victoria before moving to Whistler.

When did you first get into real estate?

I started in real estate in 2006 as an assistant and did that for a couple of years while getting my license. I then worked as a buyer’s agent for another agent, before going out on my own in 2009.

The initial job as an assistant kind of fell into my lap and as soon as I started work I fell in love with the industry and knew I wanted to be an agent.

What advice would you give to someone looking to buy a property in Whistler?

Get educated on the market beforehand so you are prepared to make an offer if you see something that you like. With the current market conditions properties don’t stay on the market for long so it is important to have all of the relevant knowledge in order to make a quick, informed decision.

What advice would you give to those looking to sell in Whistler?

If you’ve ever been thinking about selling, the time really is now. The current market conditions mean it is one of the best times to sell in the last decade. Be prepared as you might get multiple offers!

What’s your favourite thing about working with your clients?

I think it’s just meeting people from all over the world. Everyone has their own story and reason they want to be in Whistler. The diverse range of people that you get to work with is fantastic.

Do you have a most memorable sale or purchase?

I’ve had the opportunity to work with some the original Whistler locals who have great stories from times gone by. People who are completely new to the area and excited to explore all Whistler has to offer are always refreshing to work with too.

What is it like to raise a family in Whistler?

It’s awesome, I have a 1½ year old son and I can’t wait for him to grow up here, he’s a pretty lucky little guy!

There really is so much to do here. Just as there are so many activities for adults there are the same for kids, but you only discover them when you have kids yourself.

What do you specifically enjoy about the Whistler lifestyle?

Everything! The small town community feel, having world class events, and the fact there’s always something going on here. And, of course the mountains – that’s why we all came here and that’s what keeps us here.

What’s your favourite season and why?

That’s tough! There are aspects I love about each. I love winter for the powder, spring and fall because it’s quiet in town, and summer for the lakes. I don’t think I can pick a favourite!

If you weren’t a real estate agent, what would you be?

That’s hard as well. I always wanted to be a travel show host, that was my dream job in my early 20s.

What makes you smile the most?

My son.

How do you decompress?

It depends on the season. An ideal day for me is a bit of time with my son, a bit of time for myself and enough time to help my clients.

So, depending on the time of year, I would usually spend my ‘me time’ skiing or bike riding.

What accomplishment do you consider to be the most significant in your career, or life?

I think that for me, that just has to be becoming a mom. You have no idea what to expect or how awesome and difficult it will be at the same time.

And finally, in one sentence, why should people live in Whistler?

I think once you come here, you don’t have to be convinced, it’s such an amazing place it speaks for itself!
