Whistler Realtor Q&A – Drew Meredith

Published on

Q: Why did you move to Whistler?

A: I came to Whistler from Vancouver in 1971 to ski for a year.

Q: What made you stay?

A: I totally fell in love with the place and realised that I wanted to live here and got into real estate in 1975. It was the lifestyle, the beautiful surroundings and entrepreneurial spirit of the town that got me to stay.

Obviously in the 70s there wasn’t much here, but the skiing was incredible and there was a really great vibe about the place.

Q: What has it been like seeing the village change over the years?

A: The town has changed with me growing up – I arrived here when I was 21 years old and as I needed things, as I had kids, as I needed doctors, all of a sudden there was a doctor, a pharmacy and so on. And more importantly Whistler continued to provide me with an income.

Q: What would you say to someone looking to buy a property here?

A: This is probably one of the greatest places on earth to live!

Q: What advice would you give someone looking to sell?

A: I would say don’t sell!

Q: What’s your favourite thing about working with your clients?

A: It’s the genuine happiness created by buying a place here. Not many people can own in Whistler but those that are fortunate enough to do so are very happy people from all over the world.

Q: What is your favourite season and why?

A: Fall. Basically you get the best of all weather, and colours and fewer people!

Q: How do you decompress?

A: I have a 52-acre farm in Pemberton and I am decompressing on a regular basis – I have no shortage of things to do!

We have horses and we make our own hay and have a huge vegetable garden.

Q: If you weren’t a real estate agent, what would you be?

A: A farmer.

Q: What makes you smile the most?

A: Seeing people happy and enjoying life in Whistler.

Q: What accomplishment do you consider to be the most significant in your career or life?

A: I was mayor of Whistler from 1986-1990. I felt the town was going in the wrong direction so I put up my hand and got elected. It was probably the most mind-expanding experience I’ve ever had, four years of intensity that you can ever imagine.

I’m very happy with how it went and the results we achieved.

Q: Finally, in one sentence, why should people come to live here?

A: Because we have the best lifestyle, the greatest set of amenities, it’s a wonderful place for children to grow up and it’s close to Vancouver and the airport!
