Q: Why did you move to Whistler?
A: I’m originally from Prince George but moved to Whistler in 1996, I used to ski race and wanted to be in the mountains plus most of my family had already moved out at that point as well.
Q: What did you do when you first arrived in Whistler?
A: I’m a registered nurse so I initially worked at the Pemberton emergency department but then started helping my Mom (WREC Agent Lynne Venner). I took my licensing course however sadly at that time in order to activate your licence you were not allowed to work another profession.
So because of this I decided to resign from nursing, with tears in my eyes! It was tough to leave but I enjoyed working with my Mom and we’ve worked together ever since!
Q: So you’re happy with your decision?
A: Yes! I do really enjoy real estate and it’s similar in some ways to nursing. You’re trying to help people, and you deal with lots of personalities, and lots of helping manage emotions. You also need good communication and listening skills in both professions.
Q: What is it like raising a family here?
A: Great! We have lived in both Whistler and Pemberton – I initially moved to Pemberton then moved to Whistler in 1999 and lived here until 2002, before moving back to Pemberton. Once my oldest started to walk I really wanted a fenced yard!
Personally I love raising my family in Pemberton. It’s a super tight community, they can walk to school or they can ride their bikes to school, they can do anything within minutes.
Levi is 6, Tegan is 12, and Lucas is 16. From the get go we have totally encouraged every program offered for our children – from ski school to bike camp, and freestyle/freeride programs. Lucas started skiing at 18 months and hasn’t stopped! In the summer we’re hugely involved in all the biking programs, including the BMX.
Tegan went to World’s last summer in South Carolina for BMX and Lucas is going to Crankworx in New Zealand and hitting the Junior World Cup DH circuit.
Q: What do you enjoy about the lifestyle in here?
A: I love the scenery. I love waking up and being surrounded by incredible views. I have a 10 acre farm in Pemberton and we face Mt. Currie, so we wake up to this stunning view every morning.
I like that everything is easily accessible and you don’t have to drive everywhere. The community is also very tight and I love raising my family here.
Q: What advice would you give to someone looking to buy in Whistler or Pemberton?
A: I think more people in Whistler are investing, investing in their lifestyle. Be as prepared as you can and be ready to act when you find something you like.
Pemberton is more residential, but the market is just as fast so if you find something you love then be prepared to move quickly. Either location you need to get all your ducks in line to make the process as smooth as possible.
Q: What is your favourite thing about working with your clients?
A: Working with clients is just such a positive experience, especially when you get to the stage where you find something they want to move forward with. And, of course, handing them over their keys and welcoming them to the community, whether it’s Whistler or Pemberton. I love welcoming families to their new homes.
Q: How do you decompress, or how would you spend your ideal day?
A: Just being outside and spending time with my family and friends. A good example would be this past Sunday – we got up and immediately went outside to visit our animals and play in the snow. I find this is always really calming. We have 40-something animals! We have a cat, a puppy, an old dog, a pony, a horse, and lots of chickens!
Q: What is your favourite season and why?
A: I like them all – I like skiing in the winter, but I am leaning a lot more towards summer now. The days are longer, it’s warmer, and I’m outside for longer!
Q: What makes you smile the most?
A: My family! And sunshine!
Q: What accomplishment do you consider to be the most significant in your career or life?
A: Being a Mom to my 3 amazing, loving boys.
Q: Finally, in one sentence, why should people come to live here?
A: The easy word is lifestyle – you’re surrounded by endless outdoor opportunities, a wonderful community, and incredible scenery!
