The View From Here
The View From Here 2019
On February 2, 2019, The Whistler Real Estate Company presented the View From Here 2019.
Now in its second year, the goal of this event is to bring together idea-focused minds and policy makers to provide insight into the factors that impact Whistler’s business and investment environment.
This year’s theme was Charting the Course. The afternoon began with our headline speakers who presented the macro framework (including market trends, government policy, and real estate markets) which decision making in Whistler works within.
Following a short break, a panel of speakers took to the stage to address the following discussion topic:
What do you see as the role of your organization within the vision of Whistler? What are the opportunities, challenges, and projects that you anticipate and plan to address within the next 5 years?
This was followed by a networking reception hosted by BlueShore Financial.
Charting the Course
Since winning the bid to host the 2010 Winter Olympics and the end of the financial crisis, Whistler has undergone a lengthy period of growth and change. Increasing tourism numbers, a steady increase in real estate values, a number of significant capital investments, along with the continued diversification of the economic base has moved Whistler forward. Yet change is inevitable.
New mountain ownership and partnerships, changes in legislation, political uncertainty at many levels, new tourism trends, changes in technology, and increased uncertainty about capital markets come together to ensure that new challenges and opportunities must be understood and addressed in order to keep the Resort of Whistler (and the Sea to Sky corridor) moving forward successfully.
As we look towards the future and ask “what’s next?” we must consider the opportunities and challenges that will be presented. This year’s event theme of “charting the course” aims to delve into the various opportunities and challenges that we now face and how they may be addressed.
